Meet a Member: Serra Işıl
With an international background in industrial engineering and psychology, Serra Işıl is now a Junior Strategist at Heart Mind Design (HMD) in İstanbul. HMD is an insight driven consulting firm that helps organizations become their human selves. Business of Purpose has partnered with them to host the “Purpose NOW” event, an international 2-day gathering to reimagine the future of organizations (more details coming soon!).
Within HMD Serra works with organizations that acknowledge the value of purpose for a better future.
“I am delighted to work with various organizations across many different sectors which are dedicated and passionate about transforming towards being more purpose-driven .Since my first day, I have been very happy to be part of a community that works for a better future.”
Serra believes that businesses are learning and improving themselves every day. Purpose, she believes, is the new way of looking towards this better future.
“Making profit itself is no longer relevant. A striking example for this is a research I came across recently; it shows that since April 2021, many U.S. workers (more than 19 million) have quit their jobs. I see this as a wake up call for businesses who have been struggling to discover and attract new talent.
Finding meaning and value in life is something humans have been looking for centuries. However, when it comes to businesses, we do not seem to be looking for meaning from the very beginning. This does not make sense — because at the end of the day, businesses are built of humans too. When the core (humans) of business is searching for meaning in their life, then why are businesses not paying attention to finding theirs? I truly believe that this is the future that awaits us; sooner or later, we will be there. At the end of the day, we now know that we are not robots.”
Serra found Business of Purpose when her team was on a search for a purpose-driven community. She shared that she is very happy to be a part of BoP in such an early stage of its presence in Turkey.
“As the name suggests, BoP is a purpose oriented community which enables people form all different backgrounds and profiles to learn more and unite around Purpose. A couple of years ago, there were almost no context or resources around being purpose-driven or about corporate purpose itself, so we are thrilled to see that each and every day, more will be done and the change is happening exponentially.”
